Nintendo Light Gun Upgraded With 'Ridiculously Powerful' (REAL) Laser (VIDEO)

WATCH: Nintendo Light Gun Fitted With 'Ridiculously Powerful' (Real) Laser

A team of nostalgic gamers and gadget hackers have turned a Nintendo Light Gun into a real - and deadly - laser gun.

The North Street Labs team took a NES "duck hunt" Zapper and retrofitted it with a "ridiculously powerful laser".

The team detailed the process - which, it goes without saying, should not be tried at home - on their blog.

After tearing out the original electronics they had to totally rebuild and customise the Zapper to install the 2W laser.

And the result?

"After initial testing, this thing is absolutely terrifying," the team said.

As seen in videos posted to the site, the gun is capable of setting matches alight.

"I discovered that my laser meter tops out at 2W... which this Zapper rapidly passes. The meter quickly shoots to 1800+ , then just says "1" when topped out. This means the Zapper is AT LEAST 2W OUTPUT. I wear my laser goggles at all times when handling this thing and only turn the key right before use. That being said, it's been a fun build!"
