PS3 Hits 70 Million Units Sold, As Xbox Live Marks 10 Years

The world's two biggest home console companies have both hit massive milestones.

On Friday Sony announced that it has sold 70 million PlayStation 3 consoles since its launch in 2006.

The company said it hit the mark on 4 November, "demonstrating continued growth and momentum of the PS3".

It added that sales of its Move motion controller had surpassed 15 million units.

Meanwhile Microsoft said its Xbox Live online gaming community had just passed 10 years since its birth in 2002 - just a month after it too hit the 70 million consoles-sold mark.

The recently launched action shooter Halo 4 also racked up the most time spent on the service since launch, with 442 million hours in one week.

Xbox live now has 40 million members, and Microsoft has announced a series of discounts for popular Arcade games available this weekend - check their website for details.
