Nintendo's Wii U has had a successful UK launch, figures have suggested.
According to industry magazine MCV, the new console sold 40k units in its first 48 hours on sale in the UK.
The magazine cites "retail sources" who say the console essentially sold out, and that more than two games were bought for every new machine.
The numbers also exclude digital sales of new games.
Clearly Nintendo would have been able to sell more consoles if more had been available, but sources said they would not be in 'plentiful' supply until January.

Despite the strong showing, no Wii U game hit the UK top ten all-formats software charts.
Nintendo's flagship 'Nintendo Land' game hit 11th position in the chart, while Ubisoft's widely-praised ZombiU hit 17th.
