A student received a nasty shock as he was tucking into a KFC meal and found what he thought was a "wrinkled brain" inside a piece of fried chicken.
Ibrahim Langoo discovered the three inch organ as he was chowing down on a Gladiator meal box at a restaurant in Colchester, Essex. The horrified 19-year-old was picking the chicken off the bone when he saw the "horrible wrinkled foreign body".
The "brain" Langoo found in his KFC
"I threw it down onto my tray immediately. It looked like a brain. I suddenly felt grim and really sick," he told the Sun.
The Colchester Institute student alerted staff immediately but said he received no help. After complaining online and sending in a picture of the offending organ, KFC said it believes the "brain" is in fact, a kidney.
"I never want to eat KFC again - in Colchester or anywhere else," the traumatised Langoo added. "I’ll eat chicken at home, where I can see how it’s been prepared.”
It's not the first time a brain-like tidbit has been found lurking beneath KFC's breadcrumbs and batter. In March last year, a third year Southampton student had the same experience as Langoo when she found a mysterious foreign body among her chicken delectables.
A KFC spokesman said the company always tried to ensure the highest standards in its restaurants.
"Although we haven’t received the product, it appears from a photograph that unfortunately on this occasion a kidney, and not a brain as claimed, was not removed in the preparation process.
"We’re very sorry about Mr Langoo’s experience and while there was no health risk, we agree it was unsightly."
KFC issued some vouchers to Langoo to compensate for his nauseating experience.
