Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius "sobbed uncontrollably" in court on Friday as he was formally charged with murder.
The South African athlete is accused of killing his girlfriend at his home in Pretoria in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The gold-medal winner, known as the Blade Runner for his prosthetic legs, earlier left a police station with a coat over his head and arrived at the court amid a media frenzy, TV footage showed.

Pistorius, 26, was arrested on Thursday over the killing of Reeva Steenkamp, 30, who had been shot in the head and upper body.
It has emerged in the South African press that Steenkamp had been shot four times through a bathroom door.
Prosecutors have indicated they plan to pursue premeditated murder charges.
The court will reconvene on Tuesday and Pistorius will remain in police custody until then.
