Photographs of the bloodied bathroom where Olympian Oscar Pistorius shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to death have emerged.

The images show a missing panel in the bathroom door and police tape at the location of two bullets.

Obtained exclusively by Sky News, some of them are in black and white, possibly in an attempt to make them less offensive.

Oscar Pistorius has been charged with the premeditated murder of Reeva Steenkamp

The channel reports the pictures have surfaced amid allegations officers involved in the investigation are being questioned in relation to the alleged disappearance of one of Pistorius's watches from the gated property in Pretoria.

It adds the South African Police Service refused to comment on the images.

Blood spatter marks on the floor and sofa are also photographed, as is a still-wrapped Valentine’s Day gift Steenkamp apparently intended to give her lover.

A card addressed to "Ozzy" - her pet name for him - sits atop the gift, accompanied by a bag of heart-shaped sweets.

Pretoria-based news reporter Barry Bateman, who has been reporting on the case has also been tweeting the images, says he believes they were taken by a police officer at the scene with a mobile phone and are not official crime scene pictures.

Pistorius denies the premeditated murder of Steenkamp and is back in court on June 4, with a trial expected to take place before the end of the year.

The double amputee claims he shot 29-year-old Steenkamp after mistaking her for an intruder.

Pistorius, 26, known as the "Blade Runner" has been on bail since shooting Steenkamp dead at his home on the morning of Valentine’s Day.

Pistorius will next appear in court on June 4
