News about Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, going into Labour has sent the world's press into meltdown.

Aside from the 13 trillion tweets reporting that "Kate has gone into Labour" a huge press pack has taken over the streets outside the Lindo Ward in Paddington.

But it wasn't always the case that the press owned the streets for Royal baby births. Back in 1982 for the birth of William it was the people who called their pavements their own, as this comparison pictures shows.
