Bayern Munich outplayed Barcelona again for a 2-0 victory in the Uli Hoeneß Cup in what was a "very special game" for Pep Guardiola.
71,000 fans in the Allianz Arena were treated to another 90 minutes of football which re-emphasised Bayern's ascendancy, three months after European champions battered Barça 7-0 on aggregate in the Champions League semi-finals..
Guardiola was diplomatic about his former club, hurting from Tito Vilanova's enforced departure, with whom he had engaged in a row over visiting his former assistant when Vilanova was receiving treatment for cancer in America.
Phlipp Lahm scored Bayern's opener
"It was a very special game for me," he said. "I spent my whole life as a player and coach of Barcelona.
"I'm very happy now and have nothing to complain about. I have been given a very good side with Bayern."
Bayern captain Philipp Lahm, one of the best full-backs in the world over the past decade, started in a three-man midfield alongside Toni Kroos and former Barça man Thiago Alcântara.
Lahm scored the opening goal but does not expect to remain further forward, with the injured Javi Martínez and Bastian Schweinsteiger two indispensable first-teamers.
"I think I did a good job," the Germany and Bayern captain said. "I still think my biggest strength is as a right full-back, though.
"I think we saw that I can do well also in this position, but I think we have other players who have the quality to fill it. But if the coach fields me there, then I will try my best."
Croatian striker Mario Mandžukić doubled Bayern's lead in the second period.
Jordi Roura took charge of the visitors following the resignation of Vilanova, with new coach Gerardo Martino's arrival pending.
