'Fifty Shades' author confirmed the news on Monday, posting on Twitter she wrote:

Johnson, who has previously had supporting roles in 'The Five Year Engagement' and 'The Social Network', is the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.

The 23-year-old's casting as naive university student Anastasia Steele comes after months of speculation, with names such as Emma Watson and Amanda Seyfried previously being thrown into the ring.

British actor Hunnam, 33, is best known for his role as Nathan Maloney in the Channel 4 drama 'Queer as Folk' and recently starred in 'Pacific Rim' alongside Idris Elba.

He is a relatively unknown actor, compared to the names who were previously rumoured for the role including Ian Somerhalder and Chris Hemsworth.

The producers of 'The Social Network', Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, are also producing 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. British filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood will direct the flick, set for release in August 2014.
