Are Germany's 'Gay Uniforms' A Political Protest Against Russia?

The German nation team for the 2014 Winter Olympics showed off their official uniforms for the Sochi Games earlier this week, looking absolutely fabulous. Perhaps a little too fabulous for Vladimir Putin and his Kremlin apparatchiks, with the rainbow outfits appearing remarkably similar to the gay pride flag.

Is this a protest against Russia’s anti-gay propaganda law?

Is this a form of silent protest from the Germans following the obscene crackdown of Russia’s LGBT community? Social media certainly thought so, with many taking to Twitter to praise the German team for making a political statement about Russia’s recently imposed anti-gay propaganda law.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation said otherwise, with spokesperson Christian Klaue reportedly insisting that "the uniforms are not a protest". What do you think?
