Manchester United have dropped more Premier League points already than they did in the whole of last season, and given the deadwood that lingers in the squad David Moyes must wish he had wielded the axe in the summer.
Seven United players are out of contract at the end of the current campaign. Their 2011 Champions League final back four - Fábio da Silva, Rio Ferdinand, captain Nemanja Vidić and Patrice Evra - Ryan Giggs, Federico Macheda and the on-loan Jesse Lingard could leave on frees, but there are several others who could depart for fees.
