Speaking about his new acting role, Les said: “I am so thrilled to be joining the cast of Coronation Street. It has always been my favourite TV programme.

“It mixes high drama with some of the best comedy on screen.

“I grew up watching all the amazing characters in the show. I now not only have the chance of meeting them, but also working with them. It doesn’t get better.”

Les - who will start filming on the cobbles on Monday - is no stranger to acting, having also appeared in the Monty Python West End show, 'Spamalot' as King Arthur and alongside Ricky Gervais in 'Extras'..

“Les hasn’t just decided to start acting — he’s really learned the skill by spending a lot of time on stage over the last few years.

“Corrie fans are in for a real treat.”
