'EastEnders': Shane Wants Peggy Back On The Square

‘EastEnders’ actor Shane Richie has revealed that he’d love to see Barbara Windsor reprise her role of Walford icon Peggy Mitchell.

The actor, who plays Alfie Moon in the hit soap is keen to see more old faces on the Square following the return of Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) earlier this year.

Shane wants to see Babs back in Walford

"There's a real buzz here now," Shane told Soaplife magazine. "[Producer] Dominic Treadwell-Collins wants to tap into characters with history, so you might be seeing some old faces.”

Shane admitted that he’s starting to feel a bit lonely on set, joking that the new additions to the cast have left him missing his old castmates.

"When I walk down the corridor at work, I'm the only one I recognise!” he said. “I'm hoping Babs [Barbara Windsor], who played Peggy Mitchell, will come back."

Barbara quit 'EastEnders' four years ago

Barbara first appeared in the soap in 1994 and her character Peggy Mitchell soon became a household name.

The former ‘Carry On’ actress left the show in September 2010, though she did pop up in a few episodes in September 2013.

Perhaps it would have helped if Peggy was on hand to put Nicole in her place?

‘EastEnders’ is currently building up to a huge ‘Whodunnit’ plot when Ian Beale’s daughter Lucy is murdered by a mystery assailant.

The storyline will run for over 10 months, until the murderer’s identity is revealed on the show’s 30th anniversary in February 2015.
