Lupita Nyong’o has been named ‘Most Beautiful Woman’ by People magazine in their annual ‘Most Beautiful’ list.
The ‘12 Years A Slave’ actress topped the chart ahead of stars like Pink, Amber Heard and sitcom actress Mindy Kaling.

Lupita, who will also appear on the cover of People as part of her title, told the magazine she was happy she could represent other girls, saying she was happy "for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen.
“It was exciting and just a major, major compliment.”
The star admitted she’s struggled with her looks in the past, claiming when she was younger she had associated beauty with “light skin and long, flowing, straight hair”, adding: “Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess.”
However, she says she eventually grew more confident and attributed her mum for helping her learn to appreciate her looks.

Previously, during a speech at Essence’s Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon, Lupita described a period in her life when she “didn’t feel beautiful”, and admitted that she’d been teased and taunted in the past due to her dark skin.
Being named People’s ‘Most Beautiful Woman’ is just the latest honour in what has been an amazing 2014 for Lupita.
Earlier this year she scooped the Academy Award for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ thanks to her performance in the critically acclaimed ‘12 Years A Slave’, and was recently named the first ever black spokesperson for cosmetics brand Lancôme.
Meanwhile, it would seem that while newsreaders all over America want to celebrate Lupita bagging the 'Most Beautiful' title, some of them seem to be struggling to pronounce her name...
