It’s a sad day for fans of watching minor celebrities falling gracelessly from a great height into a swimming pool, after the news that Tom Daley’s diving show ‘Splash!’ will not be returning to screens for a third series.
The diving competition - which was won by Diversity dancer Perri Kiely back in January - suffered a steep decline in viewers from its first series to its second, dropping by over two million in a year.
Tom Daley
An ITV insider has revealed that Tom’s preparations for the Rio Olympics in 2016 were also a deciding factor, telling The Mirror: “Tom’s diving comes first. But we love having him on the channel and are looking at other projects for him.”
Following his stint as a coach on ‘Splash!’, Tom later starred in the ITV2 docu-series ‘Tom Daley Goes Global’, which saw him and a friend backpacking in various locations around the world and taking part in different extreme challenges.
Louis Smith
Luckily, anyone hoping to catch some C-list stars making a fool of themselves in the pursuit of light entertainment can breathe a sigh of relief, as Tom’s fellow Olympian Louis Smith is about to unveil his new show ‘Tumble’ .
Louis and Beth Tweddle will be coaching a number of celebrities - including ‘Loose Women’ anchor Andrea McLean, former Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding and Steps singer Ian ‘H’ Watkins - in an attempt to turn them into world-class gymnasts, or at the very least gymnasts worthy of a spot on a Saturday evening reality series.
