Spanish tourism heads have called an emergency meeting to address the scandal caused by the now infamous footage of a British girl filmed performing sex acts on 24 men.
Believed to be an example of “mamading” – a game where bars encourage young women to perform sex acts in return for free alcohol – the meeting will address measures to prevent the “anti-social behaviours” of some tourists and businesses.
A statement translated by Reinformacion Balear reads that the government has reiterated its “strong rejection of such conduct starring a certain type of tourist and companies that damage the image of our destiny.”
The girl is seen fellating more than 20 men in the two-and-a-half-minute long video
Balearic Minister of Tourism Jamie Martinez will host the summit next Thursday, which will focus on the areas of Magaluf, Platja de Palma (Mallorca) and Sant Antoni de Portmany (Ibiza).
Additionally, a campaign intended to clean up Magaluf’s image in Britain is set to launch within weeks.
The Balearic government, central government, Spanish tourist board Turespana, the Balearic Ministry for Tourism, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, ABTA, the Association of British Travel Agents and businesses in Magaluf are due to collaborate in the plans, the Majorca Daily Bulletin writes.
Meanwhile CarnageMagalluf which organised the controversial bar crawl will be holding their own press conference this week.
The company insists the girl was not drunk, that she was not forced and performed the acts of her own volition.
In a recent tweet, it added: “We are not responsible for the girl’s actions. The girl and her 8 friends bought tickets for the next BARCRAWL as they said it was amazing.”
This weekend it emerged the 18-year-old who is from Northern Ireland comes from a deeply religious family.
She has reportedly been forgiven by her parents, with a friend of the family telling the Irish Mirror: “Her family love her and will protect her in their faith.”
