As Van Gaal Gets Ready To Pass Judgement, Who Should Stay And Who Should Go At United?

Louis van Gaal will decide which Manchester United players will remain at the club beyond this month at the end of the week.

Van Gaal and his 25-man squad fly back to Manchester in the early hours of Tuesday morning after their International Champions Cup final against Liverpool in Miami.

United have beaten LA Galaxy, Roma, Internazionale and Real Madrid during a vibrant pre-season tour of the United States, however Javier Hernández, Wilfried Zaha, Nani, Anderson, Shinji Kagawa and Marouane Fellaini's United futures remain enshrouded in doubt and Van Gaal will soon pass judgement.

"I shall make judgements after the tour," the United boss said. "I have let all the players play so I know now more than I did before.

"But in football you have to judge. Always you have to give a chance to a player to make a transfer when you see that his perspective is not so high to play.

"You have to say it in advance. When you say it on August 31st it's too late. I shall say to the players what I think after the tour."

With a fixture list devoid of European football, United could play as few as 40 games next season yet their squad, including some of the youngsters named in the pre-season tour party, exceeds 30.

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward cited Liverpool as a model example, after they "performed extremely well with a smaller number of players", although the decision of squad size will be left to Van Gaal.
