Premier League Results: Tottenham Beat West Ham

Who Beat Who On The Premier League Opening Day?

Tottenham piled the pressure on West Ham manager Sam Allardyce with a late opening day Premier League win at Upton Park.

Debutant Eric Dier scored in the 90th minute to give Spurs a buoyant start to the campaign after the first-half dismissal of Kyle Naughton. The full-back was penalised for handball inside the area, however the usually reliable Mark Noble missed his penalty for the profligate Hammers, who had James Collins sent off in the second period.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa registered an impressive 1-0 win at Mark Hughes' newly-improved Stoke City. Match-winner Andi Weimann's 50th minute strike was too powerful for Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Championship champions Leicester City twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Everton. Aiden McGeady and Steven Naismith put the Toffees ahead only for Leonardo Ulloa and substitute Chris Wood to level - the latter's strike coming four minutes from time.

Queens Park Rangers, another of the promoted clubs, experienced an unsuccessful return to the top flight, though, as Hull beat them 1-0 at Loftus Road. James Chester claimed the only goal in that fixture.

Sebastian Larsson rescued a point for Sunderland at West Brom five minutes from time after a Saido Berahino double put the Baggies ahead. Lee Cattermole gave the Black Cats the lead at the Hawthorns.

And in the first game of the season, Louis van Gaal channelled the spirit of David Moyes as Manchester United lost 2-1 to worthy winners Swansea City.
