An enormous geomagnetic storm burst into life above the Earth on 11 and 12 September - and the result (if you could see it) were spectacular auroras above the poles.
Unfortunately, most people in the northern hemisphere live too close to cities, or two far south, to see the lights properly.

Fortunately, we have Chad Blakley, who at Lights Over Lapland recorded these beautiful images and posted the results to Vimeo. Blakley said the lights "will never be forgotten by the people that were lucky enough to witness the event".
