‘EastEnders’ star Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell in the BBC1 soap, has accepted a payment from the publishers of News Of The World, a court has heard.

The actor is one of three celebrities to take a payment from News Group Newspapers and the Judge also heard that a police officer sold information about Steve to a reporter in 2010.

Steve’s lawyer Tamsin Allen also stated that a News Of The World journalist has admitted to intercepting the actor’s voicemail messages.

Speaking outside the court, Steve said: “For years, false and private information about me has appeared in the press.

"Although I am pleased to finally understand how some of this information came to be published, I am particularly concerned that a police officer sold my privacy to a tabloid newspaper for profit.

"I consider the payment of damages and public apology will go some way to ensuring respect for my and others' privacy in future.

"I am glad to have been vindicated and to be able to put this matter behind me."

Kelly Hoppen and Keeley Hazell have also accepted damages from the paper’s publisher.

A number of other celebrities and public figures, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Nigella Lawson, were also reportedly victims of phone-hacking.
