The announcement, as it appeared in The Times on Wednesday 5 November
Benedict and Sophie have been quietly dating for months, and the couple have made just a handful of public outings together.
Theatre Director Sophie has been praised by critics for a number of her professional efforts, including a 2010 revival of Henrik Ibsen's 'Ghosts'.
She has also recorded a french music album, 'The Isis Project', and made a handful of acting appearances on the small screen.
Last month, the couple enjoyed a night out in London, though they chose to arrive separately at the restaurant they were dining in.
Engagement rumours first started circulating in late October, when the actor was spotted in Sophie’s parents’ hometown of Edinburgh.
