Around 1,400 children die every day from diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. Roughly one in ten of the world's population lives without safe water. And 2.5 billion people live without sanitation.
The situation is no joke - which is why WaterAid works to create a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation, operating in 26 countries to improve access to safe water and hygiene in some of the world’s poorest communities.
WaterAid is also the force behind World Toilet Day on 19 November. And to raise awareness this year, they're asking the great people of the UK to vote for Britain’s Best Toilet Joke.
Comedians like Milton Jones, Lucy Porter, Arthur Smith, Helen Lederer, Tim Key and Bec Hill are all taking part - and you can watch them deliver their wee one-liners in the videos below and on the WaterAid website, where you can also vote for your favourite...
The winning joke will be announced on World Toilet Day. Visit the WaterAid website to vote for your favourite and to also book tickets to the first ever It’s No Joke! Comedy Festival, which runs from Sunday 16 to Wednesday 19 November and features comedy gigs, workshops, quizzes and even toilet discos, all being held in former public lavatories across London.
