One Direction cleaned up at the American Music Awards on Sunday. They were honoured with the awards for favourite pop/rock duo or group and pop/rock album, as well as being named artist of the year.
Zayn Malik, who recently fended off accusations of substance abuse, was back in the spotlight with his bandmates to accept the gongs.
One Direction triumphed at the AMA Awrds
It didn't take long for new scandal to surface though, as details came to light regarding the split of long-time manager Paul Higgins. His departure is thought to be as a result of a bust-up with Malik, which began when he failed to join his bandmates in promoting their new album.
The star's excuse was that he had a "tummy bug".
Is Zayn's gastric distress what's making the boys look so glum?
Those po-faces certainly couldn't be related to the huge success of their latest track, Bob Geldof's Band Aid 30.
Perhaps they were disappointed by the absence of fellow triple-award winner Katy Perry, who was off touring in Australia. The singer won trophies for single of the year, favourite adult contemporary artist and favourite female pop/rock artist.
Not even a smirk...
The quintet nabbed 3 prizes at MTV's EMAs earlier this month, for best pop, best live and best fans. They could be down in the dumps because they were hoping to improve on that score?
Regardless of whatever is making them so grumpy, the boys did well. Check out the full list of winners here:
