Being dumped by your fiancée over the Christmas period must suck, but one man is determined to make the most of a miserable situation.
John Whitbread, 32, from Leicestershire, is selling a spare ticket for his honeymoon on eBay after his girlfriend, Amy, called off their nuptials due to pre-wedding nerves.
He spent £1,950 on the two-week trip to the Dominican Republic, and while the travel agent said he can't have a refund, he is still able to change the second name on the tickets for a fee.
"I was gutted when she said she didn't want to get married but I realised I couldn't mope forever and I didn't want what I'd already paid to the holiday to go to waste," Whitbread said.
"Besides, I think it will be good for me to get away. I'm just looking for a new friend who fancies a holiday with someone fun."
He's created a hashtag (#girlfromthepublictodominicanrepublic) to advertise the holiday, and posted YouTube videos of every step of his journey.
He even filmed his parents' reactions when he told them about the breakup and his eBay plans.
Stunned by the mass of attention his offer has already received, Whitbread, who works at a brick plant, has announced he will be giving any money over £1,050 to a testicular cancer charity.
The holiday has currently received 47 bids, the highest at £1,151.00.
This isn't the first time we've seen someone recycle a holiday ticket post-breakup. In December, Jordan Axani successfully found a travel companion with the same name as his ex-girlfriend to take her ticket off his hands.
We hope John Whitbread is just as lucky.
