The ‘EastEnders’ actor has said in a new interview that he was shocked when Joanne popped the question on Valentine’s Day - much like his soap character Mick Carter, whose partner proposed to him during one of the recent live episodes of the BBC series.
Speaking in the new issue of Hello! magazine, Danny explains: “It was a complete bolt out of the blue but I’m so glad she did it because I don’t think I could have taken the rejection. I love the fact that Jo proposed.”

The loved-up couple have been together for 20 years, after first meeting at the age of 14, when they were still at school together.
Joanne admits that she’s “always wanted to marry Danny”, but wanted to wait and have their wedding when their children were a bit older, telling the magazine: “I never wanted to get married when the children were babies because I wanted to let my hair down and enjoy the day.
“But we have had our little boy now and we’re not going to have any more, so the time is right.”
Despite their non-traditional proposal, Joanne also confesses that she’s hoping for a totally traditional wedding ceremony, adding: “The only thing that’s a massive deal for me is I want my dad to see me look like a beautiful princess. I want him to walk me up the aisle. I want Julio Iglesias performing, the whole lot.”
Julio, if you’re reading this, make sure you give them what they want - there might be a cameo in ‘EastEnders’ in it for you.
So far, 2015 has been off to a flying start for Danny, as well as the shock proposal from his girlfriend of 20 years, he’s also bagged himself a National Television Award and received critical acclaim for his dramatic performance in the ‘EastEnders’ live week.
