In a joint statement, the couple confirmed: “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment.
"To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time."
The pair first met in 1995, while they were both on tour with their respective former bands, No Doubt and Bush.
Seven years later, they tied the knot, though sadly it wasn’t to last, announcing their split a month before what would have been their 13th wedding anniversary.
Earlier this year, Gwen became emotional during an interview on the ‘Today’ show where she talked about how proud she was of her marriage.
She told presenter Jason Kennedy: “We both want to be married. We both want to be good parents, and so I feel really proud of what we've done together and that we don't… You're gonna get me crying, no don't, I'm going to get all emotional! But I am really proud of it.”
The two musicians have three sons together, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo, while Gavin found out two years into his marriage to Gwen that he was also the father to British model, Daisy Lowe.
