Nicola Stephenson, whom soap fans will recognise from ‘Brookside’, has signed up to star in ‘Emmerdale’.
The actress will play teaching assistant Tess, and bosses are promising that she’ll “mix things up” in the Dales.

Nicola has shared her joy at joining the cast and, given the recent success of the soap’s #SummerFate storyline, there couldn’t be a more exciting time to sign up.
MORE 'EMMERDALE':
"I'm thrilled to be joining the cast of ‘Emmerdale’,” she states. "It's a British institution and I'm very excited about the storylines that they have planned for my character."
‘Emmerdale' producer Kate Oates adds: "I'm delighted to welcome an actress of Nicola's calibre to the show.
"We are keeping the exact details of Tess' storyline under wraps, but it is safe to say she will mix things up in the village."
Nicola made soap history during her time as Margaret Clemence in ‘Brookside’, when she shared British soaps’ first ever pre-watershed lesbian kiss with Anna Friel’s character Beth Jordache.
The actress will start filming in the coming weeks, however, fans will have to wait until the autumn for her arrival on screen.
