Bosses at the BBC missed the chance to sign the Radio 2 Breakfast host on an exclusive 'golden handcuffs’ deal, meaning the reboot of the motoring show will be delayed.

Meanwhile, Chris has signed up to present 10 episodes of ‘TFI’ after the recent anniversary show proved a hit with viewers, with 3.7million tuning in.

The new series of the cult 90’s show will be back on our screens in October.

Even BBC TV boss Danny Cohen admitted he was shocked Chris had signed up for both shows.

“I was a little bit surprised,” he said. “He had a commitment, he’s finishing it, but after that he will be solely focused on Top Gear.”

However, Channel 4 bosses don’t agree, insisting the presenter can “go on making TFI if he likes”, because their contract was in place before the BBC’s.

Earlier this week, Suzi Perry effectively ruled herself out of a presenting job on the all-new ‘Top Gear’ after she signed a new deal to front the BBC’s Formula One coverage.

Suzi had previously revealed she was being considered for a role on the show alongside Chris Evans.

The news that Suzi is unlikely to be a part of the new ‘Top Gear’ presenting team comes just days after former model Jodie Kidd revealed she had turned down an offer to co-host.
