Predictably, ‘EastEnders’ bosses are remaining tight-lipped about what his return could entail, other than the fact it will be a “guest appearance” in the new year.
We also know his comeback will have something to do with the brief comeback of Alfie and Kat Moon, which will no doubt be providing plenty of drama, as soap fans will no doubt recall how rocky Charlie’s relationship with his daughter has been over the years.

Speaking about his impending return, Derek said: “I’m so excited to be coming back into such a big and important storyline and I can’t wait to get stuck in and be back with the family again.”
Derek previously appeared for a short spell in ‘EastEnders’ at the tail-end of 2013, claiming at the time he’d like to have stayed for longer.
He claimed: “It was wonderful to go back after all this time… maybe it will all become more permanent. Nothing's been said but I can't help hoping.”
‘EastEnders’ fans are in for an exciting 2016, in addition to Charlie Slater’s return to the Square, viewers can also look forward to a new spin-off show, which will focus on Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie’s characters, Kat and Alfie Moon.
After a difficult 2015, the soap couple finally appeared to have turned things around earlier this year, when they won a fortune on a scratchcard, only for Alfie to discover that he had a brain tumour.
