Volvo S90 Revealed With Advanced Self-Driving Technology

Volvo's New Car Is So Clever It's Almost Impossible To Crash

This bold-looking car is the new Volvo S90. It's the new flagship for the Swedish automotive maker and utilises advanced technology to make it one of the smartest, and safest cars, you'll be able to drive.

The S90 uses Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), a single chassis design that can be utilised for everything from 4x4s to high-performance hatchbacks.

Using $11 billion in R&D, the SPA and the new S90 is just the start of Volvo's assault on the car industry in an effort to achieve its fantastically bold target of becoming injury and fatality free by 2020.

To help it accomplish this the S90 has been equipped with some of the most impressive self-driving technology seen in the industry.

Advanced Pilot Assist is an autonomous driving system for motorways, it allows the S90 to travel at speeds up to 130km while intelligently tracking cars around it. The S90 will adjust its speed to match cars in front and behind it and will even give gentle steering inputs if the driver is seen to be veering out of their lane.

Volvo will also equip the S90 with a new version of its City Safety technology. The car is able to use onboard cameras and sensors to detect pedestrians and cyclists who might unwittingly step in front of the car. The S90 would then immediately brake and deploy the necessary airbags.

Well now City Safety has been updated to include large animals including deer, elk and moose hopefully reducing the risk of damage to driver, animal and car even further.

Taking inspiration from Tesla's stunning iPad-like display, the S90 will also include the advanced SENSUS touch-control interface. A giant screen will give drivers access to all the car's features including Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Volvo's S90 will be officially unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show early next year.
