M1 Section Closed After Lorry Crash Causes Fuel Spillage

Part of the M1 motorway has been closed after a collision between an HGV and a car caused a fuel spillage.

The crash, on the northbound carriageway between junction J11 and J12 in Bedfordshire, resulted in three minor injuries and a spillage of approximately 800 litres of diesel from the lorry.

More than 2,000 square metres of carriageway are to be dug up, removed and resurfaced on the main carriageway and the northbound entry slip road at J11.

The spillage spread across the slip road and three lanes of the main carriageway, but the remaining unaffected lane needs to stay closed to allow for the emergency works.

Traffic is currently being diverted and the closures will affect drivers planning to head north from the Home Counties, London and South East regions.

Highways England said in a statement that it anticipates the closure will remain in place until Saturday afternoon.
