Britain's Got Talent Judges Feel The Force As Dancing Stormtroopers Reach Final

Magician Richard Jones and disco-dancing stormtrooper act Boogie Storm have each won a place in the Britain's Got Talent final.

Jones was the overall winner of the live semi-final of the ITV show on Tuesday.

The four judges were split over whether to choose Boogie Storm or 14-year-old ballet dancer Jack Higgins for the second spot in the final, but the Star Wars stormtroopers triumphed as they had gained the largest share of the public vote between the two.

Before performing in the semi-final, 25-year-old soldier and magician Jones explained: "I just love the look on people's faces when they see something that shouldn't be possible. I know the British Army are behind me, I just hope tonight I can conjure up a winning performance."

The judges were left stunned as Jones performed a trick using Amanda Holden's autobiography - and none of them could work out how he had done it.

He asked Alesha Dixon to choose a page and a word, and then made that exact page and word appear as a message in a bottle which had been guarded by Simon Cowell.

David Walliams said: "Well it was absolutely astonishing. We had absolutely no idea how you did that. A brilliantly original trick."

Cowell added: "You, sir, are a wizard. That has to be magic."

Talent show judge Cowell told hosts Ant and Dec that he was not at all surprised to see his Golden Buzzer act Boogie Storm make it into the final.

After they danced to a medley of Michael Jackson, Sir Tom Jones and even Swan Lake, Cowell said to the mute Stormtroopers: "I absolutely love whatever you are. I know that we can't talk to each other, I know that you can't talk back to me.

"As I said in the auditions, I have literally waited all my life to see this ... this is what we're looking for, this is what the royal family want."

Walliams begrudgingly agreed, saying: "It's so annoying, because it was actually brilliant. It is annoying because he is so smug right now ... I hate to say it but I think this act is going to go far."

The other beaten hopefuls were drone-dancing act Flying Bebop, singer and pianist Josh Curnow, Brit School dancers Khronos Agoria, dancing polar bear and clown act Vadik And The Bear, teenage singer Morgan Connie Smith and girl group Zyrah Rose.

Disappointed dancer Higgins could still be in the final as he is eligible for the publicly-voted wild card.

The third-placed acts who narrowly missed out on a place in each of the five semi-finals can still be picked by viewers when voting opens on Thursday evening.

Boogie Storm and Jones join fellow finalists 100 Voices Of Gospel, Mel & Jamie, singer Wayne Woodward and sword-swallower Alexandr Magala in the grand final on Saturday.

The acts to perform on Wednesday's live semi-final at 7.30pm will be Balance Unity, Beau Dermott, Bespoke Candi, Bollywest Fusion, Christian Lee, The Collaborative Orchestra & Singers, Danny Beard, Tumar KR and Vox Fortura.

The winner of the ITV show, now in its 10th year, will perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Show and win a £250,000 prize.
