A mixed bag of news features on the front of the Sunday newspapers – from a ‘cash crisis’ in academy schools to tensions in the Tory party.
The Sunday Times runs with the headline: “Tories in turmoil”, and carries two stories about the political party.
In its first, it reports that an investigation revealed former cabinet ministers were “attempting to profit” from a new cash for Brexit gravy train in Westminster.
And in the other, it says the battle to succeed Theresa May “erupted into fresh acrimony” as top Tories traded blows on whether Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson had leaked information to distract from a story about an extra-marital “flirtation”.
Politics is also the focus of the Sunday Telegraph front page, which describes a “dramatic intensification of the war within the Conservative Party”, and reports that Eurosceptics have warned the PM she is letting Remainer civil servants dictate the terms of Britain’s withdrawal from the EU.
And the embattled PM suffered a “fresh blow”, the Mail on Sunday says, as Donald Trump criticised her handling of Brexit negotiations.
The paper says the US president claimed in an interview that he would have taken a much tougher stance than Mrs May.
Meanwhile, the Observer leads on an investigation into the government’s flagship academy programme.
The paper claims six of the top 10 academy trusts have raised warnings over pressure on school funding.
Elsewhere, the Sunday Express reports that rogue parking firms will be banned from issuing tickets under a new Government crackdown.
