Second Stab Victim Named Amid Witness Appeal

The second victim of one of two fatal knife attacks in London has been named as police continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Sadiq Mohamed, believed to be in his 20s, was found with serious stab injuries in Camden, north London, at around 10.15pm on Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene in Malden Road.

Hours earlier, 17-year-old Abdikarim Hassan, was found with knife wounds in Bartholomew Road.

No arrests have been made and police are investigating the possibility of a link between the two murders.

Detective Inspector Simon Pickford said: “The investigation is still in its early stages and we are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to establish exactly what happened on the evening of 20 February.

“I particularly want to speak to anyone who was driving in the area of Malden Road around the time of the incident.

“It is absolutely vital that anyone with information comes forward to speak to us; a family is mourning the loss of a young man and we will continue working to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

A section 60 order – which gives police the right to search people when they believe serious violence will take place – has been put in place until 3.30am on Friday.

College student Abdikarim came to the UK from Somalia when he was two years old and was the eldest of six children.

His uncle Yusuf Ahmed said he was a “good guy” who was “always smiling” and liked playing football.

His mother saw him lying on the floor as he died, after realising he was the victim of the attack when she called his mobile phone and heard it ring, neighbour Layla Awod said.

A third victim, 19-year-old Lewis Blackman, also from Camden, was knifed to death in Kensington on Sunday.

The latest murders bring the total number of people stabbed to death in the capital this year to 16, including five teenagers and come amid concern over a surge in knife crime.

In the year to September 2017, England and Wales saw a rise of 21% in recorded crimes involving a knife, including a 13% rise in homicides; a 44% rise in sexual assaults and 28% rise in rapes where a bladed weapon was used, compared with the previous year.
