10 New Neutrals For The Perfect Transition To Spring

You might need to wear a bib when you're drinking coffee though.

Before you click off this page because you think you’re far too messy to wear neutrals (read: spilling breakfast or coffee down your front less than an hour after getting dressed), just have faith in your clumsy self.

Vogue has predicted that this spring will see the return of neutrals to our wardrobes - beige, cream, oatmeal, stone - yes these sound like Farrow & Ball paint colours but you get the picture, and we’re totally on board.

Honestly we just want to look chic AF in trench coats and linen blazers and feel like we’re in ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’. If you’re into it as well, these are the 10 new neutrals we want to add to our shopping basket this season.

Double breasted linen blazer, & Other Stories, £89

Okay this blazer is quite a spenny way to start the season but just think how perfect it would look with a round-neck white t-shirt and blue washed jeans. Also it is definitely a smart enough layer to wear to the office but not so warm you’ll want to take it off as soon as you sit down at your desk.

ASOS Design straw cross body bag, ASOS, £30

If you want to invest in the neutral trend in a slightly less expensive way (don’t worry we’re all about a lack of commitment too) then this straw bag from ASOS is perfect. It makes us feel like summer, picnics and Pimms - and that can’t be a bad thing. Right?

Slim leg jeans, COS, £69

White jeans admittedly have had a bad rep over the years (think super skinny, tight white jeans with stilettos *shudder*) but these cream, slim-leg jeans feel modern and cool. Style them with stripes and a pair of white trainers for an easy weekend outfit.

Belted button up jumpsuit, COS, £99

This jumpsuit is the absolute top of our summer wedding wishlist - and it is not white so you don’t need to have the whole bride dilemma. Ideal. We would wear it with Swedish-Hasbeen-style clogs and a huge pair of earrings.

Espadrille tie sandals, Whistles, £119

Espadrilles might remind you of your mum in the early noughties, but you know what - that woman was on to something. Not only are they comfy, but they give height (5.5cm) without instability - cue dancing to the early hours. Made of buttery leather and canvas, they are worth saving up for.

Duo Curve Droplet Earrings, &OtherStories, £23

Every good outfit needs a pair of earrings to finish it off. These gold beauties will look perfect with everything from wedding outfits to jeans and an oversized jumper. We particularly like the shiny finish.

Tie waist top, Monki, £30

Often if you’re feeling a bit unsure about a trend, tops or blouses are the easiest way to dip your toes in without being left feeling like you’re in a fancy dress costume. This cotton top has a relaxed fit with a v-neck, puffed sleeves and a belted waist. It also comes in mustard.

Ecru bucket hat, Weekday, £18

This might be the most contentious item on the list so far, but we’re gonna say it out loud: bucket hats are good and we all need a bit of nineties nostalgia in our lives. This cream number from Weekday (with a distressed edge nonetheless) would look so cool with a blazer and wide-leg jeans. Think Diane Keaton.

Linen side button midi dress, Warehouse, £49

This is the most colourful item we’ve got here but it definitely still qualifies as neutral. And with that button-front, spaghetti straps and midi length, the linen dress just ticks all the boxes for our ideal summer dress. Add to basket.

Mushroom cotu classic trainer, Superga, £50

Superga trainers are the ultimate summer shoe - airy, light, and make you look like you’re ready for an impromptu game of tennis whenever the moment takes. If Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow don’t want to take us to the Italian coast for a holiday in these bad boys, then we’re all out of ideas.

We all work hard to earn our money – so it shouldn’t feel like hard work to spend it well. At HuffPost Finds we’ll help you find the best stuff that deserves your cash, from the ultimate lipstick to a durable iron to replace the one that broke (RIP). All our choices are completely independent but we may earn a small commission if you click a link and make a purchase.
