animals of the week

While it might seem like the world is collapsing into oblivion around us, we do have some joy to share. Here are some wonderful animals to help you leave the office this Friday with a spring in your step.

1. And the cows jumped over the... road marking?

I think this might be the best video I’ve ever seen.

2. Dylan the generically-named cow gets a second chance at life.

Quite possibly my favourite rescue story of the week was from Bedminster Firefighters in Bristol who rescued poor Dylan (“the generic name” for all cows they rescue, lol) from a cattle grid.

Generic Dylan had got well and truly stuck and had to be remooooved using a large animal rescue vehicle. We hope he gave firefighters a cowpat on the back for their efforts.

3. Cat site on laptop, has no regrets.

Every cat owner knows the pain of working from home with a feline prowling around. Furry bums will produce serious typos.

4. Dog would like a pint and a packet of crisps please.

Cheese and onion would be great, mate.

5. This epic service dog will receive and animal OBE.

A secret service dog, who protected President Obama and his family when a man vaulted the White House fence and sprinted across the lawn, is to receive the animal equivalent of an OBE from charity PDSA.

Special Operations Canine, Hurricane, will receive the PDSA Order of Merit in October during a special ceremony London.

PDSA Director General, Jan McLoughlin, said: “He had an outstanding career with the US Secret Service, and went above and beyond the call of duty when an intruder tried to gain access to the White House. Despite suffering a ferocious assault he never faltered from his duty.” Well deserved, pupper.
