If you had to choose one book for your child to read, what would it be?
According to a new poll, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the number one book for kids – chosen by parents that is.
The survey by Sainsbury's asked 2,000 parents to name a book they would like their child to have read by the time he or she turns 16.
Roald Dahl's sugary number topped the list, closely followed by Alice in Wonderland, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Winnie The Pooh.
The Harry Potter titles make several entries in the list, along with more from Dahl and Beatrix Potter.
A second poll by the supermarket asked parents for their most-loved children's book character.
Paddington Bear took number one slot, but we suspect that might have something to do with the marmalade-munching little guy making a return to the big screen recently...
