She is also only the second artist to sell more than two million copies in the first week, since Nielsen began monitoring sales in 1991.

Adele’s ‘25’ beat the previous single-week sales record earlier in the week, which was set by N*Sync in 2000, when their album sold 2.42 million in its first week on sale.

In the UK, ‘25’ has also become the fastest selling album ever, shifting a whooping 800,307 copies, beating Oasis’s previous record of selling 737,000 copies of ‘Be Here Now’ in 1997 in its first week.

The album outsold the rest of the Top 75 combined last week, as well as going 2x Platinum.

Adele recently announced details of a European tour, which will include a series of performances in the UK.
