A woman who tweeted a photo of two men who made what she considered a sexist comment has been fired.
Adria Richards was at the US PyCon developer conference in California when she overheard two men talking about "big dongles", the BBC reported.
The former web developer took offence to the tone of the comments and tweeted a photo of the two men sat behind her.
After complaining to the company hosting the event, both were escorted from the event and one was subsequently fired.
The incident caused a storm online as to whether the reaction was proportionate to what many just saw as nothing more than childish comments.
In the aftermath, Richards' employer, SendGrid, fired her, reports CBS News.
In a blog SendGrid SEO, Jim Franklin, said: "We understand that Adria believed the conduct to be inappropriate and support her right to report the incident to PyCon personnel.
"What we do not support was how she reported the conduct.
"Her decision to tweet the comments and photographs of the people who made the comments crossed the line. Publicly shaming the offenders – and bystanders – was not the appropriate way to handle the situation."
The whole saga has brought Richards both support and vitriol.
