Adult Acne: 5 Tips For Treatment And Prevention

#4: Always shower after a workout

If you suffer from adult acne it can seriously impact your confidence and overall wellbeing.

Although it's usually caused by stress, poor diet, lack of sleep or hormonal fluctuations, there are a few things you can do to limit your chance of a breakout.

1) Find The Right Facial Cleanser

According to the video above, created by the team at Health Feed, finding the right face wash or cleanser for you could be the key to preventing acne.

They recommend trying a formula containing salicylic acid as it can exfoliate the skin, unclog pores and relieve redness.

Washes containing benzoyal peroxide are also useful for killing bacteria, so if you find a cleanser containing both, you may be on to a winner.

2) Wash Hands And Hats

If you wear a hat regularly or are in the habit of touching your face with your hands, be sure to keep both clean to reduce the spread of bacteria.

3) Eat Less Dairy

While calcium is important for maintaining strong bones (and nice nails) consuming excessive dairy is also thought to increase adult acne.

Try switching some portions to non-dairy milk, such as almond milk, but speak to your GP before making and drastic diet changes.

4) Shower After Working Out

Jump in the shower straight after hitting the gym to avoid sweat clogging your pores and causing spots.

5) Try A Spot Treatment

If it's too late for prevention, try an over-the-counter spot treatment to reduce the size and redness of blemishes, or visit your GP who'll be able to prescribe lotions or medications to help calm your breakouts.
