A 26-year-old man has admitted the manslaughter of a three-year-old boy who was crushed by a car seat.
Stephen Waterson pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey on Monday to killing Alfie Lamb, who died after the incident in February last year.
Waterson, the adopted son of former government minister Nigel Waterson, admitted squashing Alfie by reversing his car seat into him.
Afterwards, Waterson orchestrated a cover-up to avoid being implicated in the death.
Alfie’s mother Adrian Hoare, was found guilty of putting her son into harm’s way by placing him into the footwell of an Audi convertible and was jailed for two years and nine months in May.
The Old Bailey had heard how Alfie had collapsed on the journey back to Croydon from a shopping trip to Sutton, south London. He died in hospital three days later.
Waterson, from Croydon, denied Alfie’s manslaughter and had been ordered to face a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict.
On Monday, ahead of his fresh trial, Waterson changed his plea and admitted Alfie’s manslaughter by gross negligence.
Both Waterson and Hoare had admitted conspiring to pervert the course of justice by lying to police. Waterson was convicted of intimidating a witness and Hoare of assaulting another witness.
