Another message accused the couple of giving their ‘Sherlock’ co-star Benedict Cumberbatch a "bad name".

The message read: "Both Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington are starting to give Benedict and all his fans a bad name! They both seriously just need to shut up and f***ing die already!"

Amanda took to Twitter to expose the threats, sharing the images from the blog post.

The tweet, which has since been removed, read: "To the coward who's since shut this blog down. We've already informed the police sweetie. They have all the info."

‘Sherlock’ fans quickly took to Twitter to offer their support, with one tweeting: "Absolutely right to inform the police. This is utterly sick and disgusting. Take care of yourselves x. Sending love xx"

A source close to the pair told The Sun: "This is nothing new to them, but they are not prepared to put up with threats on their life.

"These messages were incredibly sinister and they are well aware of the obsessive nature of a certain number of Benedict fans. Hopefully whoever is behind this will be caught and prosecuted."
