Giovanni Pernice has addressed Amanda Abbington’s exit from Strictly Come Dancing after it was announced she’d quit the show on Monday evening.

In a statement from the BBC, it was revealed the Sherlock actor would not be returning to the competition after missing last Saturday’s live show due to medical reasons.

A spokesperson said in a statement: “Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wishes her all the best for the future.”

After the news broke, professional dancer Giovanni, who had been paired up with Amanda last month, paid tribute to her in a post on Instagram.

Posting a picture of them in costume for their Movie Week Rumba, set to Gabrielle’s Out Of Reach from the film Bridget Jones, Giovanni wrote: “Amanda.. I am so sad we can’t continue but I am proud of what we achieved and I am sending you so much love.”

Many other of the Strictly stars also sent messages of good wishes to Amanda, commenting on a post on the show’s official Instagram.

Dancer Gorka Marquez wrote: “Sending you love.”

Fellow contestant Angela Scanlon said: “So gutted. We love you,” with Zara McDermott adding: “Amanda you are a true gem in this world. We love you beyond words.”

So far, Amanda has not spoken out about her departure from the show.

However, last week it was confirmed she had been given a bye to this Saturday’s Halloween special after she was unable to perform.

A spokesperson said in a statement at the time: “Due to medical reasons, Amanda Abbington will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend. Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
