A tile company has sacked one of its employees after he suggested Amanda Holden was using her “celebrity status” when the star contacted them to complain.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge shared screen grabs of messages between her and an Appleby’s Tiles employee called ‘Jack’ on Tuesday after there was a mix-up with her delivery.

The 48-year-old star said she was “so cross” after initially being told she would still have to pay for a delivery of the wrong tiles.

Sharing screenshots of the correspondence on Instagram, Amanda wrote: “I’m so cross that applebys-tiles.co.uk seem to have no proper customer service.

“Firstly the order was under my name. We didn’t ask for a special service... Secondly the company have admitted it was their mistake.

“Is this saying I have to pay for tiles that are wrong? How is this legal? If they’ve admitted the error.”

Pictures from the online messages showed a member of customer service staff named ‘Jack’, stating that they “do not make exceptions for ‘celebrity’ status” and treat all customers the “same”.

Referring to the member of staff by name, Amanda added: “‘Jack’ needs to learn some people skills and have a glance at the Oxford English dictionary…”

After the messages went public, a rep for Appleby Tiles confirmed that Amanda had been “fully refunded within one hour of the issue arising”.

Appleyby’s Tiles told the Express: “1. We will refund the tiles in full and arrange collection of the wrong tiles.

“2. We will arrange an exchange for the correct tiles and out of courtesy refund the postage costs due to the error. However Amanda’s representative wanted us to exchange the tiles for the correct ones and refund the full amount as compensation for the error (i.e provide the tiles free of charge) for which we declined and again offered the two options above.

They added: “In addition to this, we have made the decision to let Jack go based on his comments regarding status. We will be providing no further details in relation to this.”

HuffPost UK has contacted Amanda’s reps for comment.
