Amir Khan has apologised for posting a picture of himself on Twitter, brandishing cash and posing in front a woman who appeared to be pole dancing, whilst in Las Vegas.
The Bolton-born boxer tweeted a picture taken of him showing off his brashness, but the 2004 Olympic silver medalist has returned to Twitter to apologise for his conduct.
Khan told his followers: “Hi everyone, I want to apologise for the picture I tweeted last week. I admit It was silly of me, but I wanted to make some things clear, first the money I held was fake money the club put on our table and the girl in the back is not a stripper, she was doing acrobatics on the pole.
Khan, 25, went on to state he was not at a strip club and "wud [would] never spend or waste money that way". He stated he "did nothing wrong", yet has decided to apologise anyway.
Khan became engaged to Faryal Makhdoom at the couple's lavish party in January at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium.
"Amir Khan: An Apology
In an earlier version of this article published on 11 June 2012 we mistakenly stated that the former world champion boxer, Mr Amir Khan, had posed in front of a lady working as a stripper with the implication that he was at a strip club.
We repeated a tweet by Mr Khan in which he said that the lady was not a stripper and that it was not a strip club. Unfortunately, the headline of our original article and its content, coupled with the publication of Mr Khan’s denial, may have given the impression that Mr Khan was lying to the public as to the nature of the venue or the woman’s occupation.
It was not our intention to convey this impression which we acknowledge is false. In fact Mr Khan was at a well-known nightclub in Las Vegas, frequented by many A-List celebrities. We are very sorry for any distress and upset that this has caused Mr Khan and his family. As a gesture of our sincerity we have made a donation to charity on behalf of Mr Khan.
