Amy Winehouse’s family has revealed that no illegal drugs were found in her system when she died.

The 27-year-old ‘Back to Black’ singer was found dead in her North London home in July and was rumored to have suffered from a drug overdose.

But in a statement issued this afternoon the singer’s family said: "Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death

"Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death.”

Results of the inquest into her death are due to be announced in October.

The singer fought a very public battle with drugs and alcohol, which led to speculation that she had succumbed to her apparent addictions.

Such was her association with drink that some mourners who visited her home in Camden, North London, following her death left vodka and cider bottles outside as a tribute.

Amy Winehouse's father Mitch is reportedly planning a foundation in the singer's name which will help those who want to go to rehab.
