Andre Previn Dead: Mia Farrow Pays Tribute To Composer Ex-Husband

He died at his New York home on Thursday.

Mia Farrow has paid tribute to her ex-husband Andre Previn, after his death at the age of 89.

The Oscar-winning composer – known for his work on films such as Gigi, Porgy And Bess and My Fair Lady – died on Thursday at his Manhattan home in New York, his manager Linda Petrikova confirmed.

Mia, who was married to Andre between 1970 to 1979, shared a picture on Twitter of them together.

She wrote: “See you in the Morning beloved Friend. May you rest in glorious symphonies.”

Comedian Stephen Fry also wrote: “Farewell, Andre Previn. He played all the right notes, and usually in the right order. What a life.

“All those Oscars, awards and achievements and yet most of my generation will always think of him as Andre Preview, conducting Eric Morecambe. He probably wouldn’t mind ... ”

After leaving Hollywood, German-born Andre went on to conduct orchestras and was principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1968 to 1979.

During this period, he and the orchestra appeared on their own TV series, Andre Previn’s Music Night.

However, he is probably best known to UK audiences for an appearance on the 1971 Morecambe And Wise Christmas special, where he tried to help Eric Morecambe as he attempted to perform Grieg’s Piano Concerto during a sketch.

Andre was also an accomplished jazz pianist, and won 10 Grammys.

In 2010, he was presented with a lifetime achievement award by the Recording Academy.
