André Villas-Boas revealed at his first press conference as Tottenham Hotspur manager Luka Modrić will almost certainly leave the club this summer.
The former Chelsea boss insisted the Croat would only leave "for the right price", as he misses out, for a second successive summer, on coaching Modrić.
Chelsea had at least three bids rejected for the playmaker in 2011 whilst Villas-Boas was manager, as Spurs managed to fend off interest from the west London club.
He admitted Real Madrid, favourites to sign the 26-year-old, were not the only interested party:
"The interest that we have from various different clubs shows the importance of the player and what he's done for Tottenham.
"It's fair to say that the club respects Luka's ambitions and his willingness to move on and he respects the fact that he's an important player for the club and can help us move forward.
"Ongoing discussions will continue with these clubs until we reach an agreement which is acceptable for each party."
On a brighter note for Spurs fans, Villas-Boas admitted his interest in FC Porto midfielder João Moutinho, as revealed by HuffPost UK Sport last week.
Moutinho, who enjoyed an excellent European Championship campaign with Portugal, played under Villas-Boas during the 34-year-old's one season in charge at Porto. Manchester United have also approached the player's agent.
"He was one of the most important players in Euro 2012, he had a fantastic tournament and he's an important player for Porto. It doesn't mean he is the only target but he's someone we look on with interest," Villas-Boas said.
Steffen Freund has rejoined the club as Villas-Boas' assistant, having played at White Hart Lane between 1998 and 2003.
