An intrepid photographer has captured a hair-raising series of aerial panoramas of Venezuela's Angel Falls.

Dmitry Moiseenko spent two days circling the 1,002 colossus in a helicopter, capturing a 360-degree view of the waterfall, which is a staggering 19 times higher than the mighty Niagara Falls.

In a subsequent write-up, Moiseenko described how fog caused the shoot to be beset with difficulties, rendering the first day virtually fruitless.

The second day was slightly more successful, although he noted: "It was particularly difficult to shoot at the bottom of the falls.

"Water vapor completely enveloped the helicopter, so much so that I had to clean the lens after shooting each panorama."

But eventually the gods smiled upon him, and Moiseenko was given a rare window into the waterfall's beauty.

He exclaimed: "This is how nature treats us: She gives us 15 minutes in two days!"

The waterfall is named after Jimmie Angel, a US aviator who was the first to fly over the falls in a plane.

The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyantepui mountain in the Canaima National Park along Venezuela's border with Brazil.
