So, as many of you may or may not know the sale of all animal-tested products has been banned in the EU. This ban has stopped the selling of cosmetics and their ingredients regardless of where in the world the testing on animals was carried out.
This is good news to someone like myself. To be honest if you had come up to me a month ago and asked my stance on Eco-issues then I would have probably told you to go away and not waste my time. But, some thorough research and less ignorant understanding lead me to believe very differently. Those beliefs being that what happens to these animals is horrific, and all because you want a lipstick and foundation to cover your so called "blemishes."
I was even more horrified to find out that every bit of make up I owned was created at the expense of inflicting pain on something innocent. So what did I do? I got rid of it even though I couldn't afford anything else. To be honest going a week or so 'au naturel' wasn't a burden at all, in fact it felt quite refreshing to me both physically and mentally. Once I had gathered some pennies together then I replaced my cosmetics with those that are cruelty-free.
With this ban being in place I now feel as though I can take a deep breath and not be so Eco-conscious. To be honest I probably will still read the packets and research into products before buying them just to make sure, but now a ball is finally rolling and hopefully this needless torture can stop.
One question that springs to many Eco-minds would be how could you compare a reaction on a rabbit to a reaction on a human being. The truth is that you can't. It's extremely unreliable. Here's a little fact for you: "Of the drugs marketed between 1976 and 1985, 52% were found to be more dangerous to humans than previously indicated by animal studies."
To some I probably just sound like an Eco-conscious tree hugger who eats Fairtrade bananas and feels for third world countries. I am all these things but I don't care. The EU has finally seen the light and I'm hoping that slowly the rest of you will too.
